MONDAY, MAY 11
Arrive Vienna Airport where you’ll be met and transferred to the Hilton Vienna Plaza on the Schottenring portion of the Ringstrasse circling the city centre. Stretch your legs post-flight wandering over to the stunning Votivkirche nearby.
Join a welcome cocktail reception with fellow opera companions including a talk about the upcoming Vienna performances and events. Dinner together sampling award-winning Viennese cuisine.
Evening at leisure to meander through the nearby UNESCO World Heritage designated Innenstadt (inner city) historic sites and vibrant pedestrian areas.
TUESDAY, MAY 12
Breakfast at hotel.
Morning exploring the Burggarten and Hofburg Palace complex with the option to catch the majestic Lipizzaner stallions morning exercises in the Spanish Riding School.
Afternoon at leisure to explore the Belvedere or Kunsthistorisches Museums including the latter’s enlightening Collection of Musical Instruments. Authentic Austrian Dinner at Plachutta.
Evening concert in the Musikverein by the Bavarian Radio Symphony under Sir Simon Rattle in Haydn’s Symphony no. 86 and Brahms’ Fourth.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 13
Breakfast at hotel.
We’ll spend the day in the Mariahilf district centered around the Secession Building and its iconic Art Nouveau architecture and must-see Beethoven Frieze by Gustav Klimt.
Lunch on your own at the vibrant Naschmarkt with its multitude of food stalls and casual restaurants.
Evening dinner on your own followed by a performance at the historic Theater an der Wien taking in Stiffelio, Verdi’s rarely performed 1850 mid-period opera.
THURSDAY, MAY 14
Breakfast at hotel.
Late morning transfer to Schönbrunn Palace and gardens for a private tour and lunch.
Afternoon on own or to explore the district around the monumental Karlskirche including the new Vienna Museum with its enthralling exploration of the city’s suburban and artistic history. Allot time to enjoy a mid-afternoon café break with Sachertorte or limitless options for a sweet treat.
Then on to the Volksoper for a performance of Mozart’s The Magic Flute.
FRIDAY, MAY 15
Breakfast at hotel.
Spend the day in the northern suburb of Nussdorf. We’ll explore its fascinating Beethoven Museum and then have lunch in a typical Heuriger – a traditional wine tavern for authentic Austrian fare. Dinner on your own.
Evening on to the Vienna State Opera for a performance of Richard Strauss’s waltz-laden, epic opera Der Rosenkavalier.

SATURDAY, May 16
Breakfast at hotel.
Travel by luxury coach through the Danube valley, stopping enroute in Bratislava for lunch on your own and sightseeing. A verbal presentation on-board coach will outline upcoming Budapest activities.
Afternoon arrive in Budapest and check-in to the Aria Hotel in the pedestrian friendly Pest center dominated by the majestic St. Stephen’s Basilica. Late afternoon transfer across the Danube River to Buda area to take in the stunning vista from the heights of the Fisherman’s Bastion and have dinner.
Evening concert featuring Music of the Bach Family by the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Chorus and Children’s Choir, in historic Matthias Church. Return to Aria Hotel following.

SUNDAY, MAY 17
Breakfast at hotel.
Then a brief stroll to Hungarian State Opera for 11:00am performance of Mozart’s Don Giovanni. Mid-afternoon lunch at Maria Callas Restaurant next door.
Remainder of afternoon to stroll Andrássy Avenue and visit Heroes Square, the Museum of Fine Arts, or relax in the thermal Széchenyi Baths.
Evening Danube river cruise with dinner and music on board.

MONDAY, MAY 18
Breakfast at hotel.
Guided tour morning and afternoon of Buda and Pest historic highlights, including Parliament Buildings, Buda Castle and Gellert Cave Church with lunch and wine tasting enroute.
Return to Aria Hotel for dinner on own in nearby restaurants.
Evening at the stunning MUPA Arts Centre’s Béla Bartók Concert Hall by the Budapest Festival Orchestra and music director Iván Fischer performing Schumann’s Third Symphony and Act III of Wagner’s Die Walküre.

TUESDAY, MAY 19
Breakfast at hotel.
Tour the Franz Liszt Academy, Dohány Street Synogogue and Jewish quarter in the Palace District.
Lunch on own in either the lively Central Market or the 1894 Italian-renaissance style New York Café.
Farewell cocktail reception on Aria Hotel rooftop.
